Major lifestyle brands top Hazeltree’s most crowded shorts for May
06 June 2025 US

The increased risks of a potential recession have continued to gain momentum over the last several months, and short sellers have taken note, according to a recent Hazeltree report.
The Shortside Crowdedness Report is a monthly listing of the top 10 shorted securities in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, split into large, mid, and small-cap categories.
Tim Smith, managing director of data insights at Hazeltree, says: “We witnessed an extension of consumer spending taking root across the globe, as major lifestyle brands shot to the top of Hazeltree’s most crowded shorts across companies focused on entertainment, energy, fashion, travel, electronics, and more.
“In the Americas, we also noticed large-cap stocks turning back toward tech, with five out of the most crowded shorts from four in April.â€
In the large-cap category, Live Nation Entertainment and Chevron Corporation were the most crowded securities in the Americas.
Albemarle Corporation was the most crowded security in the mid-cap category for the second time this year, with Kohl’s Corporation leading the small-cap category.
In EMEA, Kering rejoined LVMH as the most crowded securities, while Fujikura ascended to the top in APAC.
The mid-cap category was dominated by Davide Campari-Milano in EMEA, while Mercari reappeared for the second month in APAC, joined by Ibiden Co. and WuXi AppTec Co. as the most crowded securities in the category.
The small-cap category saw a tie in both regions — between WH Smith, SSP Group, CVS Group, Senior, and Basic-Fit in EMEA; and between Tokai Carbon Co. and Ganfeng Lithium Group Co. in APAC.
The aggregated and anonymised data comes from the contributing Hazeltree community, which includes around 700 asset manager funds.
Hazeltree Crowdedness Score is a metric that grades securities on a scale of 1 to 99, highlighting those most targeted by investors and reflecting key demand and supply dynamics.
